A(nother) Year of Projects Part 3

Another finished project for my year of projects mission.  This time for my husband, and this is in fact the first thing I have ever knitted for him.  I made him this crochet blanket for his 30th birthday (made up of 30 squares):
Then he requested some arm warmers so we have these:
(He thought they deserved a 'manly' pose!)
Very easy pattern and also scrummy Fyberspates Scrumptious yarn.  He loves them and they are sewn up tightly so that when they get baggy they don't look atrocious!

I think for the next project I might order the yarn to make the stitch sampler shawl, but I am falling into the world of baby knitting at the moment as it is only 14 weeks until our little boy is due and I'm knitting for 6-9 months and above as it is seasonally a better time to knit for him.

A(nother) Year of Projects Part 2

I cannot believe this is only post 2 of 2 haha!  At the moment I have one finished project to show you and one in progress so at least that is something!

Capucine Hat:
For being a yarn that was not particularly lovely to begin with, this hat knitted up really nice, look at the spiral at the back!!!  The yarn is a cotton mix, and because I made this specifically for snowboarding, its not particularly brilliant when it gets wet, the tassels do not withstand being damp well and I have to trim them every time I wear the hat in the snow!  But aside from that it took about 6 hours to make and I do like this hat a lot.  I want to embellish it slightly like the one from the original pattern on Ravelry.

My current YOP project is my husbands arm warmers.  I am making them with Fyberspates Scrumptious yarn (because he really doesn't like pure wool) which is a mix of 55% Merino and 45% Silk and it is gorgeous.  I wasn't happy with doing these using a cable needle and magic loop so I ordered some 6mm bamboo needles from eBay and I am awaiting their delivery!  The arm warmers I have chosen are apparently 'knit one in an hour' so they should hopefully be finished quickly as it is getting chilly here and he would love them for under his jacket.

Wrapping Presents.

I had a little bit of a Pom Pom clarity moment recently.  While finishing off some baby hats, I had just about enough yarn to make a Pom Pom.  Now my usual method, and apparently that of all the ladies at the Stitch & Bitch, is to cut two circles of cardboard, with two circles in the centre and then thread the yarn through the hole and round and back again.

But in a moment of weakness at the thought of how long it takes, I youtubed it!

Now I know from asking others at S&B that I'm not the only one who struggled with the 'threading' technique and this MARVELLOUS lady cuts a small triangle out the side and just winds the yarn around - and I tell you its small things in life that make me very happy!!!
So now, because Pom Pom's have become so easy to make, I have decided to use them for my Christmas wrapping!

'Finished Object' Friday {25/11/11}

I haven't had a FO Friday for a while so I have a few things I've finished.

Noro Garter Stitch Baby Blanket:
I saw this lovely garter stitch blanket on the Mama's and Papa's website and I fell in love but I wanted to make one of my own.  The Noro is actually very soft and I'm still debating putting a ribbon binding around the edge of this blanket.

Garter Stitch Baby Beanie:
I made this beanie with beautiful Bamboo Sirdar Snuggly yarn and it is gorgeous.  I wanted to make something that wasn't too boyish and blue so I thought purple and green would go well together.  I still have enough yarn left over to make some little shoes.  This is 6-12 Months because my little guy will be born at the start of summer so I'm knitting in bigger sizes.

Knitted Boobie:
The colours don't photograph wonderfully of my boobie.  I made this as a test of a pattern that Sarah (Crafts from the Cwtch) created and it is intended for a breastfeeding support lady who will use it for demonstration purposes.

Little Bear Hat:

Continuing on with all the animal hats I've been making, I finished this bear hat. I love how they sit, I'm not actually sure of how I made the ears I just made it up as I went along!

That's it for me today, I did also finish the white Matinee Jacket I started, oh in July, but I haven't got a photo of it at the moment.

It's a boy!!!

Last Wednesday we found out the little baby growing in my tummy is a wonderful, perfect little boy!

Having a 9 year old step-daughter and an almost (her birthday is tomorrow!) 1 year old niece, the little boy is a welcome addition to the family and we are very happy at no more pink and sparkles for a while!!!

My husband knew it was a boy all along, but I was sitting on the fence (I am notoriously indecisive!) and when we saw on the monitor that it was a boy I shouted out 'look, there's his little man!' oh the joys of already having an embarrassing story for when he turns 18!

Today I bought a new moses basket for him.  I am very conscious of the fact that babies grow quickly so most of what I am using for him will be preloved, but we decided that his first bed should be only his from the start so that was bought new.

Oh we are so very excited, he is moving more and more everyday and now we can watch him move around in my belly too.  Only approximately 19 weeks to go until we meet him!

'Work in progress' Wednesdays {16/11/2011}

Hats, hats, hats.  I've been in the mood for crocheting lots of hats recently.  Specifically of the animal variety!

On Sunday I made this hat:
On Monday I made this hat:
(I know no animal but what blue animals are there?!)

and on Tuesday I made this hat:
Which shall become a bear I think, just need to figure out some ears.

These are all newborn, which will be impractical for our baby because it will be born at the start of summer but I have been wanting to make the Owl hat for a few years now and I got in the mood for making hats!!!
